Volkswagen Coolant System Flush
Volkswagen does not have a schedule maintenance interval for coolant flushes. VW does recommend that you have your coolant system checked every 50,000 miles (depending on model). The VW/AUDI coolant is red and is a German long-term antifreeze/coolant. The coolant does not contain nitrites or phosphates and has been formulated to prevent excessive silicate gel precipitation, significantly reducing the possibility of harmful deposit formation. Never mix Volkswagen/AUDI’s RED coolant with Preston or any over the counter antifreeze. If you are adding coolant, you probably have a coolant leak.
At Peak Auto in the Cary Apex NC area we believe that coolant needs to be flushed every 3 to 4 years. This Coolant maintenance item is important to perform when you want your coolant to do it’s job properly. If your Volkswagen has a timing belt, then the coolant will be flushed on that interval which is anywhere between 60,000 and 105,000 miles depending on engine. We do not know why VW does not include this service in the maintenance scheduled.
